Underwriting Assistant (Contract Position)

This role will run from the time of hire to mid-May/early June, with the opportunity to transition to a permanent full-time role with an affiliate department, upon mutual agreement

As an Underwriting Assistant, a typical day might include:

 

  • Verifying data required to process insurance policies by reviewing files, checking policy history, loss data, etc.

  • Accurately processing insurance policy documentation including new business, renewals, endorsements, and cancellations

  • Making recommendations on workflows to increase efficiency and decrease departmental expenses

  • Maintaining office services contracts as initial point of contact

Must haves:

 

  • Minimum 1-year experience in an administrative role, preferably in an insurance environment

  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite (Word and Excel in particular)

 

You want a leg up?

 

  • General Insurance Level I license through the Insurance Council of BC, or ability to acquire within 6 months of hire

  • General Insurance & Risk Management Diploma

  • Experience using a broker management system

Underwriting Manager

 

As Commercial Insurance Underwriting Manager, a typical day might include:

  • Effectively managing the performance of the team by providing support, guidance, and training as needed for staff development

  • Review binder capacity and assist in creating and executing a plan to develop and sell niche product lines;

  • Work with the Plus team to achieve growth targets set forth by the Vice President and CEO.

  • Determining risk acceptability, pricing, coverage, terms, and conditions of Commercial insurance products

  • Analyzing and evaluating information and exposures on insurance risks

  • Reviewing and analyzing claims and loss history and taking appropriate action on accounts and/or programs

  • Fostering positive business relationships by training and engaging our insurance broker force
